KCR to lead movement over irrigation projects after Telangana Assembly session
Hyderabad, Sep 6 (IANS) After the Telangana Assembly session, beginning on Monday, former Chief Minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) President K. Chandrasekhar Rao will launch a mass movement against the Congress government’s “negligence” towards the Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation projects.
The party made this announcement after a meeting of the BRS Legislature Party presided over by KCR at his farmhouse in Erravalli on Sunday.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, BRS Deputy Leader in Assembly, T. Harish Rao, alleged that despite the availability of water in the Kaleshwaram project, the Congress government is deliberately refraining from lifting water, thereby causing distress to farmers.
On the Palamuru-Rangareddy project, he said the BRS government completed 80 per cent of the project and completing the remaining work would yield 60 TMC of water, but the Congress government has vindictively abandoned it.
“We have decided in this meeting that, in protest against the Congress government’s negligent attitude toward these two projects, KCR himself will lead a direct mass movement involving hundreds of thousands of people in the coming days,” he said.
Harish Rao announced that BRS will confront the government in the Assembly on a range of issues – alleged harassment of farmers by placing agricultural lands on the ‘prohibited list’ under Section 22A, power cuts, the failure of the loan waiver scheme, the cancellation of Polytechnic GO 97, the Singareni scams, and failures regarding PRC, DAs, and EHS.
He dismissed the criticism of KCR by the ruling Congress party over not attending the Assembly session.
“KCR has no need to attend the Assembly just to listen to the crude, street-level language used by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy,” he remarked.
He stated that in the past, when leaders like NTR, Jayalalithaa, and Chandrababu were humiliated in the Assembly, they boycotted the House, won the people’s mandate, and returned as Chief Ministers. He said KCR was following that same path.
Harish Rao said Revanth Reddy, who is concerned over the expenditure on the Leader of the Opposition’s security, is spending Rs 40 crore to provide four gunmen to his own brother, Tirupathi Reddy—who does not even hold the position of a ward member.
He said the party will raise in the Assembly the issue of fee reimbursement dues to 30 lakh students.
He dared the Congress government to conduct the Assembly session for a month to comprehensively discuss public issues. The BRS will make a strong demand during the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting.
On the Congress party’s demand for KCR’s resignation, Harish Rao said that Revanth Reddy should resign first for reneging on the ‘Six Guarantees’ and the farm loan waiver promise.
He alleged that, unable to govern effectively and facing severe public backlash, Revanth Reddy has resorted to diversionary tactics out of frustration by raising the issue of KCR’s resignation.
He said even though the Congress government has completed 1,000 days in office, it has deeply betrayed people from all walks of life. This government has blatantly deceived students, the unemployed, government employees, farmers, women, and the Dalit, Tribal and BC communities, he added.
