CPI holds ‘Badlaav Zaroori Hai’ rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan highlighting multiple issues
New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS) The CPI on Tuesday organised a ‘Badlaav Zaroori Hai’ rally at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital, with party leaders demanding a change in government and highlighting what they described as the “multiple and deepening crises” facing the country under the present dispensation.
Addressing the gathering, CPI leaders alleged that people across various sections of society were facing difficulties due to the government’s policies and called for greater employment opportunities, education, food security and social harmony.
Speaking to IANS, former Rajya Sabha member and CPI leader Binoy Viswam said people from different parts of the country have gathered in Delhi to demand change.
“See the people. They came from all parts of the country. From North and South, they came. From East and West, they came. They are the real Indians. They are the people of India. They made India free. They made the Constitution. And now they demand a change. Their slogan is ‘Badlaav Zaroori Hai (Change is necessary)’. The country demands it,” Viswam said.
He alleged that the country was facing problems related to unemployment, food, shelter and education.
“There is no employment, there is no food, no shelter, no education, nothing is there. Seventy years have passed, but the people are still starving. Their examination system has completely collapsed. The entire examination system is plagued by corruption,” he said.
Viswam also launched a sharp attack on the Modi government, alleging that it was working in the interests of corporates and wealthy sections.
“So, the Modi government is a government of corrupt people; it is a government of corporates, of looters. And that government is ruling for Trump and Netanyahu, not ruling for India. So, we want a government that will rule for the country and for the Indian people,” he said.
He further alleged that the present government was promoting communal hatred and called for a government based on “harmony” and “oneness”.
“The present government is not the government of the people; it is the government of the rich, a government of communal hatred. So, we want a government of harmony, of oneness. That’s why one lakh people from every nook and corner of India came by all means to Delhi, the national capital, and they say this country needs a change,” Viswam said.
CPI leader Annie Raja said people across different sections of society were going through a difficult period due to what she described as the “anti-people policies” of the BJP-led government at the Centre.
“At this point of time, the people of India are passing through a very difficult situation because of the anti-people policies and programmes of the fascist BJP government at the Centre. Those policies are against the interests of workers, farmers, students, youth and women,” Raja said.
She added that people belonging to every section of Indian society were facing difficulties because of what she termed the government’s “wrong policies”.
CPI Rajya Sabha member P. Santhosh Kumar said ‘Badlaav Zaroori Hai’ was the central slogan for the rally and claimed that it had resonated with people across the country.
“‘Badlaav Zaroori Hai’ is the central slogan under which this rally is organised. We are expecting a huge participation, especially from North India, and, of course, our people, sympathisers and comrades from South India will also join,” he said.
“This slogan has become the slogan of every household and every mind in this country,” Kumar added.
