Ballary Chalo: New era begins today, fight against Karnataka govt will continue, says BJP
Raichur (Karnataka), Sep 1 (IANS) Karnataka BJP President, B.Y. Vijayendra, on Tuesday said the party’s fight against the state government had begun and would continue even after the 10-day ‘Ballari Chalo’ padyatra concludes. “The new era of the Bharatiya Janata Party will begin from today,” he claimed.
Speaking to the media after offering prayers at the Sri Amareshwara Temple in Gurugunta ahead of the protest march, Vijayendra alleged that the Karnataka government was “corrupt, anti-people and anti-Dalit.”
Claiming that the government had already been forced to bow to the BJP’s pressure, Vijayendra said, “Fearing our fight, one corrupt minister has already resigned. The government was forced into such a situation. The government had yielded when we announced the padyatra and accepted the resignation.”
It can be noted that Minister for Planning and Statistics B. Nagendra resigned as the BJP announced continuous stir and disrupted the Monsoon Assembly session alleging his role in tribal welfare board irregularities.
“The padayatra may conclude on September 10, but our fight against this government will continue,” Vijayendra said.
He said the BJP would expose what he alleged were the failures and corruption of the government over the next one-and-a-half to two years.
“We will expose the colour of this anti-people and corrupt government. We will uproot this government completely. Our fight will continue until then,” he said, adding that the BJP-led NDA government should come to power in the state in the future.
Vijayendra described the 10-day protest march from Lingasugur to Ballari as a historic padyatra and said all the party’s senior leaders would participate.
“Leaders from North Karnataka will participate in large numbers. Our workers are very enthusiastic and will actively take part in the padyatra. This will be a historic padyatra,” he said.
Vijayendra said former Chief Minister and veteran BJP leader B.S. Yediyurappa (Vijayendra’s father) would inaugurate the padyatra.
Former Chief Ministers and MPs Basavaraj Bommai and Jagadish Shettar, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka, Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, former ministers B. Sriramulu and Shivanagouda Nayak, local MLA Manappa Vajjal and party leader Bangaru Hanumanthu are among those expected to participate.
He said MLAs, party leaders and workers from the region had taken several measures to ensure the success of the padyatra.
Vijayendra said the number of people participating in the protest was not important, but the duration and intensity of the BJP’s fight against the government mattered.
“What matters is not how many people participate, but how long our fight continues,” he said.
