J&K: Poonch Police crack theft case, arrest suspect and recover stolen property worth lakhs

Poonch, Aug 29 (IANS) The Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district has achieved a significant breakthrough in a theft case registered at the Surankote Police Station, police said on Saturday.
The team arrested the alleged thief and recovered stolen property worth lakhs of rupees.
According to the police, the theft took place during the intervening night of August 19 and 20 at the shop of Sahir Ali, son of Shoukat Ali and a resident of Samote’s Ward number 8 in Surankote.
According to the police, the thieves took away several items from the shop, including edible oil, cigarettes, ghee, a gas cylinder, cash and other valuables.
The incident caused substantial financial loss to the shopkeeper.
Following the incident, an FIR under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at the Surankote police station, and an investigation was initiated.
During the investigation, police teams carried out sustained efforts to trace those involved in the crime.
Through what police described as professional and systematic investigation, the suspect was identified and arrested.
The accused has been identified as Zaffar Iqbal, son of Barkat Hussain and a resident of Dundhak in Surankote.
Police said that based on the accused’s disclosure and subsequent investigation, a substantial quantity of the stolen property, valued at lakhs of rupees, was recovered.
The recovered items include various articles reported missing from Sahir Ali’s shop.
Officials said the investigation remains in progress.
Police are working to establish the complete modus operandi of the theft, determine whether other individuals were involved and recover any additional stolen property.
Police have also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activities or information related to criminal incidents to the nearest police station.
Authorities said that timely information from residents can play an important role in preventing crimes and assisting investigations.
