Pawan Kalyan’s brother Naga Babu appointed chairman of AP Green Executive Committee

Amaravati, Aug 17 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s brother Nagendra Rao Konidela, also known as Naga Babu, has been appointed as the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Green Executive Committee.
Naga Babu is a member of the State Legislative Council and one of the key leaders of Jana Sena headed by his brother.
Environment and Forest Department on Monday issued a Government Order (G.O) nominating Nagababu as the Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the ‘Andhra Pradesh Society for Greening and Reforestation for Ecological Enrichment (AP Green).’
According to the G.O, Nagababu will enjoy Cabinet rank in his capacity as the chairperson of the AP Green Executive Committee.
Pawan Kalyan is also the minister for environment and forests. Nagababu has been appointed as the head of a body which comes under the department headed by Pawan Kalyan.
According to an official release, the government has set a primary objective for AP Green to increase the combined forest cover and greenery in Andhra Pradesh to 50 per cent of the state’s total geographical area. AP Green will work towards achieving this goal by 2047.
To ensure the effective implementation of this programme across the state, the government announced the establishment of district-level governing bodies alongside the AP Green Governing Board and Executive Committee.
As the Chairperson of the Executive Committee, Nagababu will shoulder key responsibilities such as coordinating between various departments and district-level agencies, accelerating the implementation of programmes, and monitoring their progress.
Nagababu was elected to the Legislative Council in March 2025 as the candidate of Jana Sena.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced in December 2024 that Naga Babu would be inducted into the Cabinet. He, however, later changed his decision, reportedly on the advice of Pawan Kalyan.
The Cabinet already has three ministers from Jana Sena, and two of them, including Pawan Kalyan, are from the Kapu community. The ruling coalition did not want to disturb the caste equation by appointing another Kapu representative as a minister.
Nagababu, also an actor and producer, is the General Secretary of Jana Sena. He actively campaigned in last year’s elections. He has been working with Pawan Kalyan ever since the latter floated Jana Sena in 2014.
Both had earlier actively worked for Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) floated by their eldest brother and superstar Chiranjeevi in 2008. However, the party came a cropper in the 2009 polls, and two years later Chiranjeevi had merged it with the Congress party.
