Kolkata, Aug 12 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah might visit West Bengal later this month to mark the completion of 100 days of the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state.
The 100 days of the new state government, which is the first BJP‑ruled government in West Bengal since independence, will be completed on August 19. Insiders from the BJP’s state committee said there is a possibility that the Union Home Minister might come on a three‑day visit starting from August 20.
“If he comes, his three‑day visit will have a mix of administrative and political programmes. During this visit, he is expected to hold a meeting with the top administrative machinery in the state to discuss the progress in implementation of different welfare projects, especially the centrally sponsored projects,” a state committee member said.
The likely visit will also coincide with the meeting of the party’s core committee and extended state committee in West Bengal.
Political observers feel that the Union Home Minister’s visit is crucial considering that another round of organisational reshuffle in BJP’s state‑level structure is likely before the forthcoming Durga Puja festival in October.
The state committee member said the party’s leadership might also seek his guidance on the scheduled reshuffle later this year. The next round of changes will mainly be at the organisational district, mandal (block) and booth levels, with very few at the state committee level.
It is also learnt that the state leadership is planning to recommend two names from West Bengal for crucial posts in the central leadership, namely national vice‑president and national secretary.
