Rs 700 debt turns deadly: Delhi Police crack murder case in just 2 hours

New Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS) A team of officials from Begumpur Police Station in Rohini, Delhi, has cracked a murder case within two hours of launching an intensive investigation. The team apprehended three accused in connection with the death of a 30-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed during an altercation in Rohini.

The deceased, Mukesh Yadav, a resident of Bharat Vihar, sustained a stab injury on his right shoulder near Begumpur Vihar on August 9. A PCR call regarding the incident was received at Aggarsain Hospital. Mukesh was initially taken for treatment and later referred to AIIMS Trauma Centre as his condition was critical.

He was declared unfit to give a statement and subsequently succumbed to his injuries at around 2:18 am on August 10, police said.

Following the incident, police inspected the crime scene on the road between Bharat Vihar and Pansali in Sector-33, Rohini. Bloodstains were found at the spot, following which the Crime Team and FSL Team were called for examination and evidence collection, said the police.

An FIR was registered at Begumpur Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Dedicated police teams began reconstructing the movements of the deceased through local enquiries, technical surveillance and witness examination.

The investigation led police to three suspects—Sachin alias Sagar, Pankaj alias Bhura and Abhishek alias Atal. Continuous raids at OYO hotels and lodges resulted in their apprehension within two hours.

Police said Sachin, 29, an e-rickshaw driver, is a listed Bad Character of Begumpur Police Station and has been previously involved in 10 theft cases. The other two accused, aged 23 and 22, have no previous criminal involvement, according to police.

Investigators recovered the knife allegedly used in the crime, a mobile phone and clothes allegedly worn during the offence.

Rohini Additional DCP Satish Kumar said, “Under the Begumpur Police Station area, a person was stabbed to death yesterday. There were three accused in the case, with the main accused being Sagar alias Sachin. The Begumpur Police Station team, led by ACP Sarthak Tyagi and the SHO of Begumpur, immediately took action and arrested all three accused within two to three hours of the incident. Sagar was the main accused. The motive behind the incident was a Rs 700 transaction between the accused and the deceased’s brother. Along with this, the weapon used in the crime was also recovered: the knife, blood-stained clothes and a mobile phone. So, within two to three hours, the police arrested the people who carried out this incident and also recovered the main evidence related to the case.”

Police said the incident was the result of a dispute over Rs 700 allegedly borrowed by Satish, brother of the deceased, from Sachin. When Sachin confronted Satish for repayment, Mukesh intervened, leading to an altercation during which he was allegedly stabbed.

The police are carrying out further investigation.
