Asan city, Aug 6 (IANS) India’s Anmol Kharb’s Korea Masters campaign came to an end in the pre-quarterfinals after a hard-fought loss to Olympian Vu Thi Trang of Vietnam here on Thursday.
Anmol suffered a 23-21, 15-21, 21-18 loss against an Olympian here at Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium on Thursday.
The Indian shuttle was in control for much of the opening game but squandered four game points, gifting Vu Thị Trang an opportunity to take the early advantage. Anmol then responded strongly in the second game by capitalising on her 11-9 lead at the interval to force a decider.
In the decider, the Indian found herself trailing 19-9 before mounting a late surge with eight consecutive points. However, it was a little too late for a comeback as Vu Thi Trang closed out the match and moved into the next round.
Elsewhere, fresh off her title triumph at Taipei Open, Tanvi Sharma continued her impressive run by defeating her compatriot Shriyanshi Valishetty 21-16, 17-21, 21-13.
After falling behind 11-7 in the first game, Tanvi wrested back control, reeling off a string of points to take the opener. Shriyanshi Valishetty bounced back in the second game, racing to an 11-6 lead at the interval, before sealing the second game to force a decider.
The deciding game, however, saw Tanvi in control from the outset as she edged into an 11-9 lead at the interval before pulling away decisively, conceding just four more points en route to sealing victory in 57 minutes.
Moreover, Ashmita Chaliha and Rakshitha Ramraj also joined Tanvi Sharma in the women’s singles quarter-finals.
Ashmita beat home favourite Kim Min-ji 21-17, 21-6, while Rakshitha defeated Japan’s Manami Suizu 22-20, 21-10. However, fifth seed Isharani Baruah’s and Mansi Singh’s Korea Masters campaign came to an end.
Isharani lost 17-21, 21-18, 21-19 against Kim Min-sun of Korea, while Mansi suffered a 21-12, 14-21, 21-17 defeat against fourth seed Han Qianxi of China.
