Srinagar, July 25 (IANS) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Jammu and Kashmir Police has filed a chargesheet in the court against a man in the Cambodia job scam case, officials said on Saturday.
The accused have been booked for luring youth with a fake overseas employment promise. The victims were lured with the promise of a job with Rs 90,000 monthly wages as computer operators.
Officials said the victims were forced into online scamming after reaching Cambodia.
A statement issued by the crime branch Kashmir said on Saturday that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir Police has filed a chargesheet before a court against an accused in a fraudulent overseas job racket, alleging he duped a youth by promising a high-paying Computer Operator job in Cambodia before forcing him into online scamming activities after extracting lakhs of rupees in the name of employment and travel expenses.
EOW, Kashmir, of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir Police has filed a chargesheet in FIR No. 19/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mohd Yaseen Rather, son of Nisar Ahmad Rather, resident of Kripalpora Payeen, Pattan, before the Hon’ble Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class.
The investigation was initiated on a complaint alleging that the accused fraudulently promised the complainant a job as a Computer Operator in Cambodia with a monthly salary of Rs 90,000.
Believing the promise, the complainant transferred lakhs of rupees into the bank account of the accused and spent substantial amounts on visa processing, travel and other related expenses. However, upon reaching Cambodia, he was forced to engage in online scamming activities instead of being provided the promised employment.
The investigation established the allegations as proved, and the chargesheet has accordingly been filed before the competent court.
The general public is advised to remain vigilant against such economic frauds and report any such incidents to the SSP, EOW Kashmir (Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir ).
