Delhi: NDMC V-C Kuljeet Singh Chahal leads plantation drive in Gole Market

New Delhi, July 12 (IANS) Vice Chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Sunday led a mass plantation drive in Gole Market under the ‘#EkPedMaaKeNaam OnSunday’ campaign that entered its 32nd consecutive edition, said an official.

Chahal planted saplings along with the residents at the Central Government Employees RWA, Blocks 49–55, Type-III, Kali Bari Marg, Gole Market, the official said in a statement.

He said the campaign has been launched with the objective of transforming environmental conservation into a people’s movement through public participation under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On the occasion, Chahal interacted with RWA office-bearers and local residents under the ‘Good Governance at Your Doorstep’ initiative, listened to their civic grievances, and directed officers of the concerned to ensure prompt and time-bound resolution, said an official statement.

Addressing the gathering, Chahal said that the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam On Sunday’ campaign has now successfully completed 32 weeks, reflecting the growing awareness and active participation of citizens towards environmental conservation.

He said that besides the weekly plantation drives, NDMC has also been organising large-scale plantation programmes in collaboration with universities, embassies, and various institutions.

Expressing happiness over the increasing public participation, Chahal appreciated the dedicated efforts of Team NDMC and said that such collective initiatives are playing a significant role in making New Delhi greener, cleaner, and more environmentally sustainable, according to the statement.

On the occasion, a large number of local residents participated in the plantation drive by planting saplings in honour of their mothers.

The programme was attended by Central Government Employees RWA Patron Pawan Kumar, President Krishna Kumar, Vice President Bhairav Nath, General Secretary Laxmi Kumar, Treasurer Ajay Vajpayee, Members Deepak Ahir, Priyanka, Vikram Singh Negi, Anil Chaudhary and several other residents.

The participants appreciated the campaign, stating that it effectively connects emotional values with environmental responsibility while inspiring society to protect and preserve nature.

Addressing a gathering, Chahal said: “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam is not merely a plantation drive; it is a people’s movement of emotional connect, social responsibility, and environmental conservation. Every sapling planted in honour of our mothers symbolises our gratitude towards Mother Nature and lays a strong foundation for a safe, clean, and green future for the coming generations.”

He emphasised that planting a sapling alone is not enough and that its regular care, watering, and protection are equally important. He urged citizens to nurture the saplings they plant until they grow into healthy trees.

Chahal informed that NDMC has prepared a year-long Green Calendar, under which plantation drives will be organised every Sunday across different parts of New Delhi. He said that the Horticulture, Health, Civil Engineering, Roads, Water Supply, Drainage, and Electricity Departments will work in coordination to ensure the proper maintenance and healthy growth of the planted saplings.
