Chennai, July 11 (IANS) The AIADMK on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the ruling TVK government, accusing Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay of failing to deliver on governance and attempting to divert attention from what it described as the administration’s shortcomings by targeting opposition parties.
The attack came a day after Vijay, while addressing a public meeting in Karur, alleged that the AIADMK and the DMK were working “hand in glove” despite portraying themselves as political rivals.
The Chief Minister described the DMK as an “evil force” and the AIADMK as a “spent force”, claiming that the two Dravidian parties were jointly responsible for misgovernance and corruption in the state. Vijay alleged that both parties had been functioning together in several government departments under the guise of collecting party funds.
“The evil force and the spent force are not separate entities; they are working hand in glove,” he said, while challenging both parties to prove otherwise in the forthcoming Assembly bypolls.
Responding through a strongly worded post on X, the AIADMK rejected the allegations, asserting that it had consistently fought the DMK politically and electorally. The party pointed out that it had contested against the DMK in all 234 Assembly constituencies and continues to function as an independent opposition party in the state.
The AIADMK also turned its criticism towards the TVK government, accusing it of coming to power through political opportunism by attracting parties that were previously aligned with the DMK-led alliance.
The opposition party questioned Vijay’s political engagement with the public since launching his party two years ago. It asked how many people he had personally met and what meaningful people-centric initiatives he had undertaken during that period.
Escalating its attack, the AIADMK claimed that while the Chief Minister was delivering political speeches in Karur, Tamil Nadu had allegedly suffered a major economic setback. Referring to reports that a proposed Rs 38,000-crore Hyundai investment had moved out of the state, the party challenged Vijay to explain the circumstances and address concerns over industrial investment.
The AIADMK further alleged that the TVK government had failed to tackle key public issues, including recurring power cuts, deteriorating law and order, and the rising hardships faced by ordinary people.
It accused the government of focusing on political rhetoric instead of governance and urged the Chief Minister to address the state’s pressing administrative and economic challenges rather than making what it called baseless accusations against the opposition.
