Abrogation of Article 370, true tribute to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee: Nitin Nabin

New Delhi, June 23 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin on Tuesday paid floral tributes to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 73rd martyrdom day at the party headquarters in New Delhi and said that the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership was the “true tribute” to the BJP ideologue’s vision and sacrifice.
Nabin, accompanied by BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) BL Santosh and senior party leader Vasundhara Raje, participated in the tribute programme held to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr Mookerjee, one of the founding figures of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
Paying homage to the late leader, Nabin said, “I pay my respectful tributes to Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 73rd martyrdom day. He was a fierce nationalist, a great thinker, and the first Industry Minister of this country. The dream he envisioned and the sacrifice he made, that sacrifice is now being realized before us. The abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is, I believe, a true tribute to Syama Prasad Mookerjee.”
He said Dr Mookerjee dedicated his life to the cause of national unity and integrity and remained committed to the idea of a strong and united India.
BJP leaders across the country observed the day by paying floral tributes and remembering his contributions to nation-building.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also paid homage to Dr Mookerjee and highlighted his role in shaping post-Independence India.
“Today, we have gathered to pay our respects to Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee. He contributed to building a new India after independence and worked for the rights and welfare of the poor and common people. It is because of his efforts that Jammu and Kashmir has become an integral part and pride of India,” Pathak said.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra and several BJP leaders paid floral tributes and planted saplings on Dr Mookerjee’s death anniversary.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta said, “Today is a day to remember the noble soul who sowed the seed of the BJP, which has now grown into a mighty banyan tree. That personality was an era in himself; we are merely a fraction of it. He was an entire book, while we are just a word.”
She added that Dr Mookerjee sacrificed his ministerial position at the Centre and dedicated his life to national unity and integrity, urging citizens to pledge themselves to the country’s development on his death anniversary.
