True statesman who has transformed India’s economy, standing in world: World leaders heap praise on PM Modi

Brussels, June 10 (IANS) As Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, leaders from all around the world continue to congratulate him on the milestone and praised his leadership and public service.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated PM Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister and stated that India under his leadership has landed on the moon and is shooting for the stars. She also thanked PM Modi for his efforts to strengthen cooperation between India and the European Union (EU).

“Dear Narendra Modi, today you’re becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister India has had. Congratulations! With you, India not only landed on the moon, it is shooting for the stars. And so is our EU-India friendship,” Ursula von der Leyen posted on X.

“From our cooperation on technology, mobility, security and defence all the way to the mother of all trade deals. Thank you for all that we have achieved together,” she added.

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides also took to X to congratulate PM Modi and stated that this milestone showcases PM Modi’s years of dedicated service and leadership. He expressed commitment to further strengthening ties between India and Cyprus.

“Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister in India’s history. This remarkable milestone reflects years of dedicated service and leadership. Cyprus values its strategic partnership with India and is committed to further deepening our cooperation for the benefit of our peoples,” Christodoulides wrote on X.

Denmark PM Mette Frederiksen congratulated PM Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister and expressed readiness to continue working with him to further strengthen bilateral ties.

In a post on X, Denmark PM’s office stated, “PM Frederiksen: “Congratulations on the distinction of the longest uninterrupted service as democratically elected PM of India Narendra Modi. I look forward to continuing working with you and to further strengthening and expanding our partnership to new areas.”

Australia’s former PM Tony Abbott congratulated PM Modi and hailed his leadership, stressing that India under PM Modi-led government has improved in infrastructure, IT, power and sanitation. He also praised PM Modi for his contribution in creating Quad.

“Congratulations to Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest serving PM. He hasn’t just held office, he’s dramatically improved his country, with more infrastructure, better IT, and practical things like power and sanitation extended to remote villages,” Abbott posted on X.

“Under Modi, India has become the world’s third superpower while maintaining free elections, a riotously free media and a robustly independent judiciary. But for him, and the late Shinzo Abe, there would be no Quad so the entire free world owes him a debt of gratitude,” he added.

While extending wishes to PM Modi, Australia’s former PM Scott Morrison hailed PM Modi’s leadership, calling him a “true statesman” who has transformed India’s economy and standing in the world.

In a post on X, Morrison wrote, “Warm congratulations to PM Narendra Modi on becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. A true statesman who has transformed India’s economy and standing in the world. Proud of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership we built together. Congrats my friend.”

Argentina’s Ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, also congratulated PM Modi and stated that India under his leadership has achieved remarkable success in the modernisation of economy. He also recalled PM Modi’s visit to Argentina in 2025.

“Congratulations to Shri Narendra Modi for being the longest serving elected Indian Prime Minister, under whose leadership India has achieved remarkable success in the modernization of its economy, and who has positioned his country in a place of primacy according to its scale and civilizational trajectory. Grateful to your historic visit to Argentina last year, during which important bilateral talks where held with President Javier Milei,” Caucino posted on X.
