Nizamabad, Oct 18: Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) Spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan on Sunday called the ongoing floods in Hyderabad as ‘man-made misery’ and asserted that illegal encroachments of the lake has led to flooding into the state capital and its outskirts.

Khan while addressing a press conference in Nizamabad held land grabbers responsible for the flooding and said that the current situation is the result of inaction of elected public representatives and government officials.

He alleged that the Congress which ruled the state for more than decade from 2004 to 2014 along-with All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen party who were in alliance, was responsible for the illegal encroachments of the lakes across the state capital.

He also questioned how come the Government allowed registration of lands over lakes? He further alleged that the government officials were too involved in the land grabbing as they allowed registration of such lands after accepting bribes.

Khan further said that the common people who stood still when the lakes were being encroached are now facing floods, “their houses, entire ground floor in severely affected areas have been flooded with water which has incurred them huge loss of appliances,” he added.

He said that the situation in the city is worsening with each day of heavy rains, “six to eight people from the same family are being flooded away, more than 50 people lost their lives,” he added.

He also said that several dozens of people are missing as their houses were flooded and added that the DRF teams, rescue teams are acting very slow in resolving the problems.

Further talking about the ensuing GHMC elections, he said that the MBT party is heavily preparing itself to contest the elections and win with a majority. He said that the current elected representatives come among the people only months before elections, while they are found nowhere the rest of the four years.
