Clear pending GST arrears: Harish tells Nirmala

Hyderabad, Oct 5: Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Monday asked the centre to take loans and provide GST arrears to the states.

Harish Rao attended the GST Council meeting addressed by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman from Delhi via video conference.

IGST council meeting comprising a group of Ministers on Monday instructed officials to prepare details of a report seeking the centre to clear Rs 25000 crore arrears to the states. The meeting sought the centre to clear the arrears to the states as per the GST norms.

On the occasion, Harish Rao urged the centre to release the funds immediately to the states by taking loans and pointed-out that it is unfair on the part of the centre to delay the arrears.

He made a fervent appeal to Nirmala Sitharaman to ensure that the centre must not ask the states to obtain loans instead of giving and added that the centre has collected six months cess.

He recalled that the IGST meeting of members held on October 1 has urged the centre release arrears. He said that the centre has to release immediately Rs 2638 cr along with Rs 1000 cr annual returns to Telangana.

Harish Rao said that CAG in its report to parliament has said that the centre has used Rs 25000 crore GST funds of the states to consolidate funds. IGST Convenor and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi had also agreed to urge the centre for the arrears to the states.

Nirmala Sitharaman has reportedly said that the centre will take steps in this regard. The finance ministers of the member states attended were Delhi, Punjab, Charlttisgarh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu.
