Hyderabad, Oct 2: Cyberabad Traffic Police on Friday issued regulations for road safety, public safety, and traffic management at recently operationalized Durgam Cheruvu Bridge (DCB).
As the bridge comprises certain aesthetic and recreational value, a large number of people are thronging the bridge regularly. In this view, the GHMC has decided to allow the general public on weekends on the bridge by stopping the vehicular movement.
Citing which, the Traffic Police installed CCTV cameras and Public Address (PA) systems to have round the clock surveillance over the public activities on the bridge and have set the maximum speed limit on the bridge at 35 kmph.
It has prohibited certain activities at the bridge; walking on the main carriageway when vehicular movement during weekdays, crossing the road on the bridge, standing/sitting on the road or side railings, stopping or parking of vehicles on the bridge, consumption of alcohol, among many others.
It advised the public to exhibit a greater sense of responsibility, self-discipline while on the bridge, “they should not indulge in dangerous activities like standing on the railing for selfies, lying down/sitting on the road for photos, cutting cakes and other celebrations.
It asked visitors to follow the direction of Traffic Police scrupulously at all times and help them in ensuring better management of traffic and road safety.
It also informed that the roads leading to DCB from Madhapur and Road No 45 would be closed for vehicular traffic on weekends, “traffic will be diverted accordingly,” it added.
Earlier in the day, Cyberabad Police held a meeting on recently inaugurated Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge Safety, Security aspects and Parking issues with stakeholders.
Concerned over a huge crowd visiting the cable bridge, Cyberabad Police VC Sajjanar, IPS instructed the officers to take the necessary precautionary measures. It was decided that the vehicular movement would be restricted on the bridged on weekends from Friday 10 pm to Monday 6 am.
He also suggested on the installation of folding or sliding gates on both sides of the entry, the exit of the cable-bridge, development of Road No: 45 at SBI junction, and for speed breakers from Dr. BRAOU to SBI Junction.
The meeting further discussed issues such as storeroom and police outpost for signboards, cones, barricades, staff, etc., and for a surveillance system, a place for parking,
As the visitors are coming majorly on two sides of the bridge, ITC Kohinoor side and Road No 45 side, multiple parking areas are being identified on both sides by CTP and HTP in coordination with GHMC and TSIIC, said an official.
GHMC Zonal Commissioner Ravi Kiran, Traffic Police DCP SM Vijay Kumar, IPS, Irrigation Department CH Nagaraju, and other officials from GHMC and concerned departments also participated in the meeting.
