Nizamabad, Sept 29: With the ensuing local body MLC by-election in Nizamabad, politics is heating up in the district. The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has launched operation Aakarsh in the district to attract the rival party leaders.
The party has already attracted six BJP corporators and one Congress corporator to its fold. While reports suggest that with TRS’ operation Aakarsh more opposition leaders are likely to join the ruling party.
TRS supremo and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter K. Kavitha will be contesting as the TRS candidate.
While TRS enjoys huge majority in local bodies in Nizamabad, it has 598 out of total 824 voters, the TRS leadership has cautioned party leaders against complacency and overconfidence.
Party’s Nizamabad district chief Prashant Reddy, MLAs Ganesh Gupta, Bajireddy Govardhan, Jeevan Reddy, and Gampa Govardhan are wielding their power to tie a huge majority.
Congress had just 140 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was at distant third place with 84.
The polling will be held on October 9 next month, from 9 am to 5 pm. The results will be declared on October 12 of the same month.
It may be mentioned that Kavitha had received a shock defeat at the hands of BJP’s D. Arvind in Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency last year. It was a big blow for the Chief Minister’s daughter who was elected from the same constituency in 2014.
